Something I've been focusing on lately is time management.
We all know that breaking up a big scary project into smaller tasks is a great way to get the ball rolling and celebrate little feats of accomplishments.
But even so, I find myself getting distracted throughout the day.
Tasks that should take 30 minutes end up taking WAY longer because of various said distractions.
Enter the Pomodoro Method.
I've used the Pomodoro Method on and off for years, but this week, I am recommitting to it.
The Pomodoro Method is a time management strategy, where you focus on a single task for a short period of time, typically 15-25 minutes, followed by a short 5-minute break.
I downloaded the Flow Pomodoro app to guide me.
Of course, you can use the timer on your phone, but I found myself more disciplined using a designated app.
Plus, if you're someone who gets satisfaction from seeing your data compiled into graphs and stats, the app is the way to go.
Steps for the Pomodoro Method
- Pick a task
- Set a timer for 20 minutes
- Focus on task until timer rings
- Take a 5 minute break
- Repeat as needed but take a longer break every 4-5 work intervals. I prefer my longer breaks to be 15-25 minutes.
Each work and break interval is a "pomodoro." BTW "pomodoro" means tomato in Italian.
You'll need to experiment to figure out what work and break intervals work best for you. I'm currently on my 4th pomodoro finishing up this newsletter.
PODCAST DROP
This week, we are chatting with more trailblazing South Asians. I had the pleasure of having Tina Singh on the Pod.
Tina is the founder of Bold Helmets, a company that makes helmets for Sikh kids to accomodate their hair and cloth coverings.
I found Tina's story to be incredibly inspiring. Her idea was born after her own struggle to find safety helmets that would fit her kids.
She shared how she had the idea but didn't do anything about it for years. Eventually, she pulled the plug and got things moving.
We chatted about the highs and lows of her journey, including her background, her Youtube channel (80k+ subs), inspiration for starting Bold Helmets, how she's dealt with imposter syndrome & public criticism, and how she's learning to manage her mental health along the way.

Last weekend, we went to a "hands on" cooking class.
It was a BLAST!
If you're looking for an alternative activity for a night out with friends or date night, check out cooking classes in your local area.
The prices should be pretty comparable to a sit down restaurant but with more food, laughs, and learnings.
We made steak (reverse sear method), potatoes, spinach, and a dome cake.
